Kicker Reed Signs Deal to Remain with Steelers
The Steelers
announced today that restricted free agent kicker Jeff Reed signed a five-year
contract with the team. Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Reed had an
outstanding season in 2004, leading the Steelers in scoring with a career-high
124 points, while being named AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for
Dec.-Jan. He converted 28 of 33
field-goal attempts (84.8 percent) in 2004, and all 40 of his PAT attempts. Reed finished the regular season by
successfully converting his final 17 field-goal attempts, two shy of the
team-record 19 set by Gary Anderson in 1994. He twice tied his personal-best in 2004
by kicking 51-yard field goals at Miami (Sept. 26) and at Dallas (Oct.
17).
Reed, who will turn 26 in
April, will enter his fourth season with the Steelers after originally signing
with the team as a rookie free agent on Nov. 20, 2002. He is the second
restricted free agent to re-sign with the Steelers this offseason, joining
inside linebacker Larry Foote.
Reed talked with Steelers.com Team Pass at a recenet
autograph signing and Team Pass members can check out his exclusive
interview.
